Help youth prepare for healthy, fulfilling relationships. In today’s world to do this you have to talk about porn. The simple truth is that porn is addictive and destructive. It’s just a website, pop-up window or email away from young people. Illusions/Deceptions is provided by AWARE, Inc. AWARE offers a variety of prevention programs that are appropriate for a wide range of ages and groups, including public schools, private schools and any youth serving organization. 

ILLUSIONS is an eye-opening 2-hour PowerPoint presentation for grades 8-12 that dramatically exposes the harmful effects of pornography. 

Through appropriate, guided interactions, students come to recognize that just beneath its seductive veneer, pornography is a dangerous underground world of deception, addiction and relationship devastation. Students learn how porn warps the brain’s perceptions of sex, love and intimacy. And best of all, armed with this knowledge, they become better prepared to resist its allure and pursue healthy relationships.

Deceptions Program Goals:

• Educate adolescents to help them understand and guard against the manipulative tactics used by sex traffickers
• Convince students that they are ALL targets
• Help adolescents to be able to recognize and respond to dangerous situations
• Train students with safety techniques applied in manipulative situations

What is the Deceptions program?

• Out-of-the-box Interactive School-based Prevention Program
• Facilitator’s Guide and Multi-media PowerPoint that is weaved around an engaging account of what happened to a real teen victim,  along with interviews with those in law enforcement who are working with both victims and tracking down Pimps and the “Johns”
• Program is completely scripted for each slide in the PowerPoint for presenters to engage adolescents in an interactive discussion that educates and empowers young people to recognize and stand against efforts being made by perpetrators
• Designed to be presented in 2-3 classroom sessions but adaptable to any setting
• Discussion Topics:
• Grooming Process
• Pimps prey on kid’s desires or dissatisfactions
• Can you really spot a pimp?
• How is the Internet used?
• Cyberbullying
• Social networking
• Sexting/Texting
• Runaways ARE particularly vulnerable but EVERY student is a target

• Piloted in May 2011 to 500+ students in middle schools and inter-city high school – Excellent response from students who said ALL schools need to see this program
